What now?

i stopped going to meeting over a year ago (profile explains why) and have enjoyed doing all the stuff that comes with being a non-witness; ie going out, meeting new people, lying in on a sunday, never having to wear dowdy skirts, etc.

however since coming on the forum and commenting more, i have realised that eventually i will wonder about faith again.

i still have a bible, the nwt, and even though some may say it's not a good version i do find it pleasant to read, and it's what i'm used to.

I would agree it's best to take your time and do some research. It takes quite a lot of time to get all of the jw mindset out of a person. Then, just when you think it's gone, some part of it rears its ugly head.

Why did your family decide to leave the organization? It is nice you have all of them out except one.

As far as churches go, you can stop by and sample them, if you choose to. I know the UU, Unitarian/Universalist ones accept gay persons. They even walked in a gay parade here recently.

That is so sad. You would think they could train the ones who answer the phone better than that. They have to know of the 1914 problem with all the apostates and a book written on it. They know there is no answer. At the very least, he could have insisted on the letter from the beginning of the call.

thomas ususally gets the nod, because he got stuck with the nickname, doubting thomas.

but all he did was want better id of this new body jesus.

yes the holes in his body helped quell the doubts.. but peter.

Peter was always my favorite apostle in the Bible. He was just so human. He doubted, denied Jesus, spoke impulsively, shunned the Gentiles when the Jews were around. Yet he was the one who Jesus chose to give the keys of the kingdom to.

I would have to choose Peter.

I loved the song Losing My Religion by REM. Used to play it loud and proud and sing along with vigor. I still like it. I think I wanted out a long time ago, but just couldn't manage it at the time.

Will the Book Study ever be dropped from the weekly meetings?

the book study is one of the most useless meetings.

the same books have been studied 3 or 4 times.the meeting takes only an hour but takes up most of your evening.

and, it is one of the least attended meetings.. why haven't they combined the watchtower study with just question and answer and then follow with the book study with just question and answer?

We had the book study in our home at various times. Drove me crazy.

One time, though, the only one who showed up was the conductor. My husband and I took turns answering all the questions. Of course my husband also read the paragraphs. I wanted to just cancel and call it a night, but the BS conductor would not have it.

i asked my jw friend today why witnesses shun people including family.

he said that the people here (this blog) are all posessed by the devil and that they certainly do not practice this.

i said it would be very juvenile if they did.

How would he know if the people here are "possessed of the devil?" Has he been here or met any of us. Maybe he should prove it.

I can't provide you with scans, but I am sure someone can. As far as disfellowshipping goes, I have had 2 children disfellowshipped and they told us we could not talk with them or ever go out with them to a store or movie. Also, we are not to eat a meal with them. Doing so, can result in the disfellowshipping of us, the parents.

They like to pretend like such things don't happen, but when it happens to your family it is pretty hard to deny. That wakes you up really quick. I had a witness stop by here recently who had just been reinstated, that means they are no longer shunned. She came by to tell me she could talk to me now. If it wasn't true, why would she be behaving in such a manner?

what led me to this forum was a search to find what went wrong with me and the witness religion.

since then i have used intense study and research to find the why's and how's of my failures in life(be it religious, love or friendships.

The Bible was not written by God, but by man. The only way to try and understand God is to look at the creation, the natural world around us. I get much more out of an afternoon spent in the woods than a meeting discussing the Bible or discussing the doctrinal questions that most religions are hung up on.

The other way to move closer towards God is to look inward. His nature is in us also. We intrinsically know beauty, love, kindness, etc. No one needs to tell us to be in awe of a sunset or starry sky. I don't pretend to know anything special about God. But I can feel and see his fingerprint all around me.

This is enough for me right now.

Eclipse,

The God in the Bible is one seen through the eyes and misconceptions of man. Just the contrast between the old and new testaments shows this vividly.

Do you think the people back then understood the nature of God any better than we do? They were trying to make sense of the world and all it's suffering the same way we ae today.

Will Armageddon Ever Come?

three years ago, the buzz was "its just around the corner".. two years ago, it was "almost at the door".. one year ago it was "at the threshold".. now the watchword is "the door of the ark is closing".. could it be that the new "members only" publications will now isolate a small inner core of this group?

what do you think will be the outcome?

what do you foresee for the jw's in one years time?

They have already proven that they cannot make armegeddon come through their ramblings and predictions. If destruction comes to this planet, it will be through mankind's failures, not a vengeful God in the sky.

We all need to do our part to try and make life better on this earth, while we are here.

Has God really made mistakes or have we placed him in a box and imagined him to be like us? What do we really know about the true nature of God?

We need to look closer for God , not outside ourselves. He is not a tribal deity that is vengeful and malicious.
